Good Park

Choke Canyon State Park is huge. This is an ideal park if you want to go fishing or hanging out at your campsite. Despite the large amount acreage that this park has, there are surprisingly few hiking trails. In general the campsites are large (for SP standards) and have quite a few sites that offer some privacy. You can swim in designated areas but do so at your discretion. This park has a large population of alligators and there are warning signs throughout the park. The internal roads are asphalt and well maintained. We travel in a big, heavy rig and maneuvering around the grounds were no problem. The staff was nice and very helpful.

Absolutely Beautiful!

Large spaces between RV sites; each camper is about 20-30 yards and it is lovely. Level gravel sites. This is a spot for those who love quiet and wildlife. We hiked every path in the park which took about 3 hours. We saw Caracara; 3 green jays; deer; cardinals and the highlight...a black hairy boar/wild hog. Pitch black at night. It was cloudy so we didn’t see stars but imagine it would be great..There were power boats out on the lake which disrupted the quiet occasionally and the bathrooms are VERY old, so 4 stars. BUT the bathrooms are very clean and the water pressure was great!!! We loved this visit. Highly recommend; bring your fishing gear!
