Don't Come On The Weekend
Arrived on a Thursday and had the place to ourselves. Awesome hikes and exploring. Camped right at the base of a cliff. Friday night rolled around and the locals showed up in droves with their ATVs. Saturday and Sunday was sun up to sun down, wall to wall ATVs racing up and down, up and down, up and down the canyon raising dust and enough racket to wake the dead. Monday was peaceful again. I put coordinates of each turn off into my Garmin to help navigate and not miss the turns in. Don't follow Garmin's directions, just follow the road until you get to those coordinates. Study Google maps satellite view carefully before you go and screen shot the way in. No cell coverage. I would definitely go back Mon thru Fri, but leave before the weekend. Big rig friendly, but big rigs don't go past the stand of cottonwood trees on the right. There's turn around just past them, but not afterwards. Amazingly clean for no facilities. Help keep it that way. Pack it in pack it out.

SMH
So was just out here again and IT IS OPEN!!, and as nice as it was when I posted after my last trip. You have to take the service road which follows I25 to get to it(both sides, north of Lemitar). There is a BLM sign which points towards the area. It is worth the effort if you like to boondock and disconnect for awhile.

Wonderful
Spent one night. Absolutely beautiful and amazing views of cliff and rock formations which surround you on both sides. No amenities so pack in/pack out. Good for both tent and RV camping. The dirt road getting there is about 5 miles and a little rough in spots but very doable for all types of vehicles. Definitely recommended if you wanna disconnect for a while!!!
