Scout It First
First off the staff was great. Secondly do not book without first looking at the sites in person and knowing what you're signing on for. The photos can be as alluring and deceiving as online dating sites. We booked a site online that looked great. It turned out to be a mud hole. The staff rebooked us to a backup site once I showed them a picture of our white dog and explained to them that my safety would be in jeopardy when the wife and dog arrive at site 44.....this is a huge park that will accommodate anything from a teardrop, canned ham, or a goliath 3 axle fifthwheel however, strongly recommend making a scouting trip to recon where you would be able to fit your rig. Reservations required for day passes still.

Pretty Nice Park Lots Of History
This is a pretty nice park. There is lots of history. Be sure to visit the Penn Farm House. The camping spaces are small . Our camper is 34' and the spot I reserved said it would fit a 35' max. Well our 34' had to be backed up off the pad 5' and the front of the camper was right at the edge of the road. Many of the pads are very steep so bring lots of blocks. People were very friendly and the park was very clean and neat. Renovations will take until 2022 for the swim and day use area so there are a lot of sections closed.

Ants!!!!
Can’t give a good review. With just an overnight stay we are totally infested with ants. The park can do better. Fire pit was full of garbage.

Camped at Coyote Crossing and certainly heard them at night. Lakeside spot was very nice. Wild secluded feel despite sound of I-20 nearby and planes overhead. Clean restroom/shower. Good camping 30 minutes from Dallas.

Positive: Huge park. Great entrance (appears rather new). Extremely friendly staff. Although we didn't get to swim, there are lots of entry points and the lake is huge. Didn't get to ride the bike trails but heard good things about them. (PS:. For bike service, check out B&B Bike shop just up the street. They we're awesome!!). Walmart, grocery store and large outdoor shopping mall just down the street.
Negative: several areas closed for renovations. Limited number of long pad sites. Argentinian Ants are out of control. YOU MUST PRETREAT all points of contact, including hoses and electrical or your trailer will be infested. Keep your outdoor grill away from the RV. They will swarm it. Grass is full of cock-a-burrs that will stick to everything, including dog harnesses and fur.

Needs Help.
We were in town for a convention and the location is very convenient. However, of all the state parks we have stayed at, this one gets the lowest rating. Many campsites have not been repaired for to flooding well over a year ago. The bathrooms are not cleaned daily. The park has an infestation of small ants. Sevin Dust will keep them at Bay. Do remember to put it on anything connected to your RV that touches the ground including your electric cord and sewer hose. You can also expect chiggers if you get in the grass around your site.

Large State Park Near City
This is an older state park that desperately needs renovation. Plus they could keep the restrooms cleaner. If your trailer or motor home is over 25 feet long you need to stay in the section that has sewer hookups or you will have a hard time finding anything you can fit into. My trailer is only 20 feet long, 22 feet if you include the tounge and I barely fit in my space. Weird configuration too, truck and trailer go side by side. But, very near several cities in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

Fix This Place
Over a year has passed since I was here last. The park still has areas closed . No beach or marina access. The ant infestation on the campsites is out of control. If you camp pre treat your entire perimeter or you'll be sorry. They need to fix this place or quit taking $30 a night for what they're offering.

Lots of sites, but the park is still recovering from flooding. Lots of areas are still closed. Very convenient location just minutes from Dallas. Very friendly rangers.
