Shivering Timbers
Great place for teardrops and people who are not afraid of roughing it for a few days. No water/electric. Teardroppers should not store food in galley for ( hopefully ) obvious reasons. Fabulous camp host, Dawn ( May 21, 2021 posting ). We went back at the end of June. Awesome view. But ... Note : nearby forest is being abused by folks who are tearing it up faster than the forest service can/will control it. They come to Hopewell to siphon water and fill the dumpsters, etc. - anything but pay. Abusers of the Carson include people looking for gold, setting up an expensive/destructive sluice on public lands. Be aware.

Great Place!!
We have used this campground many times. And we will be back again. New visitors need to realize this campground is off the grid (zero bars and zero G) and 10-20 miles to reception. AM radio during the day, though! The nearest fuel and convenience store is in Tierra Amarilla about 30 miles. Chama has a super market about 45 miles. Water availability is not reliable. At an altitude of nearly 10,000 feet expect cool nights and warm days.

An Unexpected Slice Of Heaven
Absolutely gorgeous CG. One side of the grounds are surrounded by meadows, the other by woods. (We chose the latter.) the nearest camp on our side of the road was about 75' away and all but invisible. In the interest of full disclosure, we came during the week, right after July 4th. Nice hiking and easy walking access to the lake. The lake is good for fishing, though too cold for swimming -- if you need a dip, gas, r ice, Heron Resevoir is about an hour away. It gets cool at night so be sure to bring a jacket.
