Birding Paradise
Delightful find in eastern New Mexico. There are beach like sand dunes and a lovely fishing lake within walking distance of the campground. The real star were all the birds. Had fun trying to identify them and loved listening to their songs. Very peaceful get away.
The campground amenities were great- electric and water hook ups, showers in the very clean bathrooms, pull through sites that didn’t feel like you just parked along the side of the road. Well spaced with lots of trees. No fire pits, but they did have covered picnic tables and charcoal grills.

Nice Park!
Large, well laid out pull through sites (some beautifully appointed for handicapped). Really nice bathrooms. Small stocked lake is clear water, with benches and groomed trails around. Lit trails, playground, and amazing sunsets. Desert flora and sand difficult for dogs used to grass potty. Surprisingly well laid out and beautifully constructed park. Would love to go again in cooler weather.

Quiet, Large Sites
This is a small park with a trail through some dunes and a trail around a 3 acre pond stocked with fish. The sites are mostly pull throughs with electric and water. There are two sewer hook ups- one for camp host and one other one. While we were here the dump site was out of order. The gravel sites are nice sized and pretty level. Covered picnic tables have shelters over them. The showers are clean with push button style controls. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Two bars of AT&T let me do all my emails etc. We saw tons of scaled quail and heard coyotes one night. Blackwater Draw archeological site is just north of here. The museum is located in Portales.
