Loved The Beach Area

We went midweek in late summer. It was quiet and beutiful. We were able to watch the birds. There were so many pelicans....hundreds of them. The beach area was great, right off our campsite. My kids were able to swim since the water was shallow for quite a distance out. Shower house was free and had warm water.

I Loved It

The hiking in the tall grass prairie was surprisingly beautiful. There were fluffy heads of grass that get blown all over the place by the wind, but they bunch up along the trail because it is recessed into the sandy ground. They're very soft and feel really nice on your legs as you hike - a small thing that left a nice impression. The camping was great and the birdwatching on the lake was some of the best I've ever seen. Eagles, owls, gulls, herons and more.

Nice Park In A Nice Area Of Kansas

Nice area indeed, with good access to the Horse thief Canyon area. Plenty of sites with water, electric, with the Rockin' K being more equestrian oriented. The horses have most of the trails ripped up, so be careful if you're a hiker.
