Nice Place But !

It's a nice camp but locals keep their rigs on beach road preventing travelers Prime spots with power and water. Almost impossible to book a site. I guess local people are their primary campers.good luck.

I have been camping and 39 states and this by far is the worst State to camp in . And what’s the deal with no dogs in any Connecticut state park.

Great Campground At The Beach

Hammanasset Campground is mostly dry sites. There are about 89 water and electric sites if you can get one. Sites are very large and grassy. There are some shade sites but most are open. The cool breeze off the water make for a comfortable stay. (Most days). There is a camp store where you can purchase fire wood and get a fire tub. No fires on the ground allowed. The beach is two miles long with walking access from the campground. There are also several parking lots farther down the road. These areas are much more crowed on a nice day. They have a bike path along the entire beach, that also continues out side the park to quiet roads along the shore line. Over all Hammanasset is one of our favorite campgrounds they we enjoy several times a year. You should learn what your Dry Camping abilities of your camper/family are before going? How much water do you carry, how long will batteries last, (bring a generator). The rest rooms are modern and clean (most of the time)

Camp Here A lot.

If you can get a site with electricity you are privileged. I live a mile from here and try a year ahead on different dates and still don't get them. Makes you wonder why. For boondocking the sites are very big and you can get in a shaded area or open field. I always choose the shade. Very noisy and kids will ride and run out in front of you. Parents don't seem to teach them to stay out of the road. Nice beach just over the dune. Nice campstore and wash stations for dishes. All in all not a bad place to stay but the prices have gone through the roof. All CT's state parks have. I would and will stay here again. Most of the people working there are very nice.

Nice place

Nice place. Well kept. Huge lots. No privacy. Few trees, but a really nice and pretty large open space. We were here on a Sunday night in Oct.

Not For Everyone

Probably great for families, because even on a Sunday night there is a ton of kids screaming and running about, parents yelling at them from across the park. $33 for a "tent" site is ridiculous, that's more than half the price of a cheap room. That money here bought a "tent" site with no trees, no privacy, tons of traffic, tons of noise, no fire pit (glad I didn't buy wood), a picnic table 2ft from the roadway, and borderline rude treatment from a "ranger" upon arrival.
